Lanseria ILS ?

Unread post by Hop Harrigan » Thu Jan 21, 2016 11:39 pm

Hi, anyone (Opsmike?) know the status of the long awaited new ILS on FALA Rwy 07? If I remember correctly it was meant to have been operational in Sep 2014 or thereabouts? From what I can see, both the localiser antennae near the E end of the rwy and the glide slope antenna near the W end are installed.
While I'm on the subject, any idea about the status of HBV as well? Anyone?

"Waiting for the CAA". ?????
This facility is a serious safety aid...jeez but this administration can't manage their way out of a wet paper bag!
As for HBV...did a few holds there today and the site still exists and looks nicely maintained...strange!

There's a VOR/DME at FAWB - it idents 'TST' (test) since 2013.
Apart from that it works perfectly well.
Yet there are no approaches published in spite of 3 scheduled flights/day to FACT.
I don't know why? CAA?
The decommissioning of HBV has been notamed.

Some calibration has taken place - don't think its done yet. It works well, none of the old scalloping seems apparent.....have no idea what the frequency is though....

ATNS is involved and a birdie told me the hold up may be there.

I take it CAA is doing the calibration using a broken stepladder and an old school ruler?

What are the CAA charges for commissioning a VOR and why is the HBV VOR decommissioned. Surely this could be an invaluable Nav aid from the North .

Flyman, just speculating but the answers would most likely be:

1. Ridiculous
2. Stolen

Attached is the motivation submitted to NASCOM by ATNS in August last year. See point 2.4 - they have no money.

Unfortunately, at that meeting AOPA-South Africa was under major attack by CAA who were trying to discredit our efforts at establishing VFR routes around and through controlled airspaces. AOPA was also facing a major onslaught from Poppy Khoza and her henchpersons to chuck AOPA out of both CARCom and NASCOM - simply because we keep people informed about most of the things that go on there.

Sorry about not letting everyone know and/or putting up a spirited fight, but we were a bit on the back foot at that time.
