Instrument SOPs call outs

Unread post by Silent Boomerang » Thu Nov 10, 2016 4:05 pm

Good day fellow Avcomers,

I am a rated IFR for quite some time.
Though i was looking too further my knowledge and proficiency.

Those who could give links or documents too the following would be greatly appreciated.
•IFR plate briefing SOP (for approaching a hold ILS NDB etc)
•Simple rules for an approach such as the 5 T's twist turn time talk throttle) / setting up the aircraft eg 1 dot GS gear down go down/ flaps selection for downwind (generic of course) or type specific for interest sake
•IF planning flow chart
•Radio terminology in a standard SID (ie 2000ft contact approach) and STARS
•Chart reading explainations

I have ways of doing all the items, though i do beleive there is a smoother way too do it.
& thats what im trying to seek here.

Warm regards

Hi Boom,
I would also be interested in a concise source of this info...however the attached is the best I've found so far.
Cheers,
Hop

I recommend "Flying IFR" by Richard Collins. Very good - is like a bible to me.
I attach my typical IFR checklist I have on my knee which I go through when setting up for an approach.
I got it from my instructors 20 years ago and still find it extremely useful.

There was a DE in CPT who used to make flow charts for AWOPS, fuel planning, Flight and duty times and DG. Not sure if you can still find it, but they were great - G Borstlap is his name, his company is BFT Aviation, and the flight shop (which was at FACT and then moved to FASH, and is now at SFA) used to stock those charts
