IF Rating: CATS & CARS

Unread post by FrancoisZA » Thu Feb 23, 2017 10:25 am

Hi Everyone!

I'm pretty new to these forums. Hoping someone could please point me in the right direction.

I am trying to find out if you can get a grace period of 1 month after the 6 month validity period has expired of an IF rating, to fly the 6 instrument approaches required to stay current. (So, can you get a 1 month grace period to fly the 6 approaches after the 6 month period has lapsed?)

I am looking for this information specifically in the CATS/CARS, but cant find anything on it.

If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it!

You can apply for a 30 day extension.

Revalidation of an IR

61.11.7 (1) If the period of validity of an IR has not yet lapsed, or has lapsed for a period of 36 months or less, the applicant must pass a revalidation check with a DFE, as prescribed in Document SA-CATS 61.

For exemption, see CARS 11.04.1

But as I understand it, you must have flown 6 approaches within the 6 month period after re-validation. What I am asking, is if you can request to fly those 6 IF approaches within a month after IR lapses, to keep the IR current.

Hope it makes sense?

Thanks for the feedback.

Does it state somewhere about the 30 day extension?
