+1

Awesome to see a machine flown so well. Personally, I find this graceful aerobatic show way more impressive than many of the high-performance displays we see these days. Roll rates of >400 degrees a second are all good and well but they almost make it too easy. This is more my cup of tea.

Most are certified. There was one that was registered as ZU IIRC. Yes they are certified for aerobatics.

Thanks Mike. Decathlons are great planes! Good deals on them in the US, despite the rand..

As these videos show, the Decathlon performs aerobatics beautifully but what makes them so popular is that they are also capable of carrying two people and luggage on a cross country flight in comfort, with a decent cruise speed and without burning a ton of fuel. Very few planes can do all of these things well, hence the name Decathlin - a multi-discipline proficiency.

Incidentally, the Decathlon is certified to +6g/-5G whereas the Pitts S2a for example has a g-limit of +6G/-3G. Not that g-limit is everyone of course but it gives an indication of how strong the aircraft is.

Not sure about those good deals in the States though, Fransw.. can you share some examples? I’d love to pick up a Decathlon if I could afford it.

Try tradeaplane.com, controller.com, aerotrader.com, etc.

Lots to choose from. A good deal will come if you have some patience..
