Progress!

She held her wings for the first time on her own yesterday. The struts are coming along nicely. Once they're all completed, wings will be ready for covering.

Sadly not yet.

Got some final work done on the struts, and will just need to check them out and then it's final prepping for a clear coat and then covering.

I'm hoping to get them across to the guy to be covered over December...

Two steps forward and one step back...

I discovered the aluminium tube that forms the spar and pivot of the rudder was incorrect. The wall thickness was 0.049" instead of 0.058". It probably would've been okay, but thought the best option was to replace it with the correct part per the plans.

It turned out not to be such a big job. Quite a bit of cutting to get it out, but it's out and the new one should be arriving this week. The rudder will need to be recovered though. Putting it all back together will be the interesting/scary part.

I will be much happier having the correct tube installed. I think it was the right way to go.

Progress!

Wings are covered!

Also making good progress with the rudder. I've changed the ali tube for the correct part. Just need to finish up some work in the rudder - with some help and expertise from Gav the Great, then it'll be ready for recovering.

I've also stripped the covering off the tailplane to double check everything inside and it all looks good, so that'll also be off for covering soon.

Next is to get the wings on and do an initial weight and balance to see where I need to mount the engine. I'm expecting to move it forward to prevent a tail heavy VP, so will have to make a mount accordingly.

I've seen the pictures on WhatsApp, but they look even better when viewed on the big monitor from my computer. Nicely done Patrick.

It was weigh day this week...

And everything came out very nicely! First time I've had the covered wings on as well. I wanted to weigh her all together to check where we stand with empty weight (minus engine) and I wanted to check CG. I need to start looking at the engine mount and this will give me an idea of where to put the engine to avoid adding weight to correct the CG. I've heard that VPs are notoriously tail heavy. Now just to figure out the CG of the engine and then I can send the figures off to some clever people to do the calcs.

I must say that having her all together like that makes it all look like it's getting closer! Getting excited!
