vp vs. Oom Piet prop

Unread post by peterd » Wed May 08, 2019 7:54 am

Hi there
any updates or is the P prop still the best on a 430/400 ?
Just wondering if any new developments on variable pitch props for a jab 3300
Cheers Peterd

Never flew with a vp prop on a Jab, but found the P prop better than 2 g/ad props.
I flew J430 and now J170 with other props an changed to P props... smoother... quieter...
better on performance... easier to repair and much much cheaper... just 2c

Hi Flooi

That seems to remain the popular opinion with jab motors.

Thanks

Have not used a P-Prop on a Jab, but did have a ground adjustable 3 blade GA prop on my 450.

In it's lightest configuration (1 on board, limited fuel), I got airborne off 14 as FAIS in 90m after powering against the brakes as long as they would hold. Prop was set for 120 kt cruise so was not pitched for max torque. 3 blade obviously was far smoother than the original lump of wood (std Jab prop) but felt like it was on steroids.

I doubt the P-Prop would be able to match this performance of T/O and cruise, but is certainly a darn side cheaper than ground adjustable or VP, and as a compromise, probably the best value for money.

Flooi

It was the GA brand composite prop. I started importing them from the Ukraine. When the war broke out, I could no longer get a response from the guy I was dealing with.

I have flown with just about every prop available.

Best allrounder and value for money is still Oom Piet's Plank ! 8)

AX Sport constant Speed-VP, never looked back literally. 3 Blade. Locally Produced. Short field take off and landings awesome, some videos here on avcom showing the performance. :D Motor was fuel injected maybe a bit more power but not at that altitude.
