Jabiru at PTAR

Unread post by pietmeyer » Sun Apr 17, 2016 7:34 am

Seems from the entries for PTAR 2016 that we will be 5 or 6 Jabi's this year in the race.
Anybody who has competed in a Jabiru before with some info on your results etc?

Flown the PTAR before.

But they usually give the Jabs a stupid handicap, so not going to try that one again.. #-o 8-[

And "race fever" sets in on day two, with many aircraft diving into checkpoints at the same time, jostling for position. Scary

Race of Champs is much more realistic with their Jab handicaps. The Free Staters did very well on day one last year 8)

had 3 tries (ZU-DFR) from 2005-7 and personal best in 2007 with 5th place overall...and that after a "pleasant but adamant difference" after day 1 ito handicap. The increased handicap was made on the assumption that its impossible for a Jabiru to fligh that straight. I love challenges but those guys punching the numbers made me a draadsitter. Then as Ben said the real challange is to land your plane in one piece in day to 2. I can confess/confirm that i used 112 ltrs on the 2nd day on a +-3 hour flight

I see ZU ESS better known as The Roadrunner is also listed under the handicaps with a stunning 123.0 knots (the fastest of all J430's.  Must have been entered by her previous owner Piet van Nieuwenhuizen. I cannot for the life of me think ESSie is capable of so much speed. I always wanted to enter but need an experienced navigator. Any takers :?:

For info, we achieved 122.15 knots with a J400 in the 2006 race :)
