RV 7 Build
So the bug bit...
Today our Vans RV7 Empennage kit arrived and it very quickly began to take over our garage. Very exciting project, will keep posting as we go.
Stood for a good half hour just staring and wondering where to start.

Congratulations. When you reach 90% done with 90% to go you will slowly learn what that means. Hang in there at that stage; it is character-building.
My advice, RTFM. Pay close attention to Section 5: of the manual and I will quote the last paragraph of this chapter, page 5-26... "Read Section 5 again and be familiar with the proper techniques needed for construction." You cannot read this section once only.
I have just completed my RV-9 and will soon be selling most of the tools I have, I just need to write an inventory and place an advert in Avcom.
The best bit of advice I can give: Van's tooling is incredibly accurate, if parts do not fit; YOU have made a mistake.
Van advises assembling all parts, then drill, disassemble, deburr, dimple, etc. I find this damages the undersize holes, as you have to force in the clecos. The way I do it: Take all parts and ream (#30 and #40 parallel reamers) holes to size, deburr, dimple, wet-scuff with ScotchBrite, paint primer and assemble, then rivit. If any holes are slightly off and a rivet difficult to fit, then align holes with a scriber or icepick. Do not enlarge holes. Last resort is to run a drill or reamer through.
Enjoy creating your own aircraft.

Oh, Guru. Pray tell, what is the secret to happiness and contentment.
Never argue with an idiot.
Oh, but I disagree!
Yes; you are right.
