If Jim says something about aviation, people listen, because he would be considered a specialist and some would take advice on the basis of his comment... same with Forex and financial instruments...
I realize we're drifting slightly, but one cannot, really really cannot go out and trade on advice given by an unknown entity on an aviation forum...surely. :?

I hear what you are saying about Jim, and it kinda makes sense, but that is also not my philosophy. You want to learn about flying, you go out and ask an instructor, a real life one. You can maybe pick up some theory here, or sort out legalities, but advice about flying it this way or landing it that way...instructor in a real aircraft for me please.

Besides, if they could nail the way a currency is going every single time, everyone would be rich. paulw has stated it in a string of his posts that he is not an expert and the graphs he put up is only from his own - "hobbyist" analysis.
Not going to go too much into it but the law in SA says otherwise, that if you are a professional even hinting on a website can be construed as advice... while you may not be basing any decisions on Barros's "advice" others may be.... paulw has it exactly right, and therefore in my view exempt from this discussion... his stating "hobbyist" analysis is spot on and everyone likely enjoys his humility and insight... Barros on the other hand in my view... different story.... he tells it likes its gospel and as a "professional currency trader at a large bank"... maybe this validates why no one should believe a "big bank", I don't know...

R14.23... seems to have hit a resistance level... or a little bump :?:

I hear you. Sadly some people feel they need to force their opinions on others - alpha-male style - en did maak my kuite dadelik styf. So I tend to ignore these personalities.

But SA law or not, if you follow some bloke on the interwebs' advice about investment, you deserve what's coming. Kinda common sense no...oh wait

I'm still waiting for R100 to the dollar by a year ago. Much like the title, that idea seems to have dissipated into thin air.
A title like that was all you needed to know that it should be avoided and immediately established sufficient "credibility".
Not many banks or forecasters that I've met have held that opinion. Perhaps it's just a piggy-bank full of rand coins.
Anyway if you take part in this sort of discussion it only heads in one direction.
Moving on swiftly..

Fair enough, I also don't mind seeing stats and graphs in a healthy debate. Rant off (mine)

Thanks for the kind words :D
Yes, I try to make it clear that I am a hobbyist. Sometimes even added a disclaimer.
The last thing I want is anyone trading or transferring money on my advise.

I sometimes do well just to end up in a hole with a bad trade wiping all the previous gains.

Wouldn't surprise me... things are not good (or at least in my circle)... friend of mine owns two property franchises... says business is 20% of what it was last year...

Inflation is going to head drastically up with the petrol price....

Land expropriation still a hot topic...

Americans closing up on everyone... trade wars...

Brexit uncertainty (people feeling risk in usually stable and low risk environments)...

Racial tension in SA (people reluctant to spend and certainly not on big ticket items and investment...

I am not sure what there is frankly to support a stronger currency in SA at the moment... we severely lack any good news... and honestly Cyril seems a little too silent for my liking... he speaks like the "chairman" of the country not the Managing Director... lacks the passion to make anyone really excited and tending to the populist line even if he doesn't actually say so, this is in my view a big problem for the economy...

Rand going from R14.84 yesterday to R14.30 today.
Caused by the $ weakening (yeah!) all of a sudden.

14.05 at the moment against the dollar but at a big resistance so I don't know if it will break through.

R13.97 this afternoon late. Maybe "slick Cyril`s " comment he made in Parliament about his son , had something to do with the Rand improving , and as Cage said regarding US mid term elections ?
