Does Anyone know using Amazon Prime Video if the Channel "CBS all access" (extra $5.99Pm over the $12.99 for Prime) that has all the shows the family like watching is available in SA not using VPN?

It has 9-1-1, seal team, Good fight etc

After some googling it seems not likely this will work on smart TV anyway :(
That is US only content.
If you want full content you need to use networking tools to mask your location.
Thanks Cage, thought as much but had to ask :)
The networking tools is a VPN subscrition. You can use www.expressvpn.com for about $8 dollars pm if you sign up for a year. VPN allows the service to think you are in the USA or where ever. Some of the subscription services are looking for USA credit card or addresses to allow you to sign up. Netflix and Amazon Prime works prefect from SA. Some of the shows you are looking for could be on Netflix USA. Netflix SA is limited due to DSTV buying rights for shows in SA. That is why most people are going Showmax route. I have not because that is still supporting DSTV...

All offshore video requires masking, many require US credit cards or vouchers for payment.
a VPN is one way, often the slower option, there are others also.
I pay around $4/pm for mine.

Thanks Cage for all the info, right now i want to keep it simple for family, smarttv, netflix and more than likely amazon prime Video(if only for grand tour :) ) is a simple button press away as both apps on TV.

Might even upgrade my appleTV from 3rd gen to 4th but not required as yet.

Showmax wont get as also still owned by DSTV(Naspers) in fact never used it on my decoder even though its free.

Interesting, based on yesterdays Emmy awards, seems that DStv are not the only network taking a beating. Appears the cable cutters are dumping the traditional broadcasters in the US too.

Netflix productions had more nominations than other networks/production houses.

So what are the thoughts with Naspers dumping (separating) Multichoice?

Over a year ago I cancelled DSTV and moved to Showmax, but the platform they use to download movies is hopeless as the movie only runs for a few minutes, stops, buffers, runs etc. Absolutely useless and maddening, so in desperation I tries Netflix. Buffers once, then movie runs without any further buffering.

My advice, stay away from Showmax and DSTV; use Netflix. If I want to watch rugby, then a visit to the local watering hole with a widescreen is called for. An hour later, highlights will be loaded on Youtube.

Perhaps a step in the right direction for our local operator. Their new offering - Connected Video

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/broadcas ... tflix.html
To achieve that, we’re focusing on all aspects of the consumer journey: make it easier to sign up, improve content discovery, iron out usability issues, add new features and functionality, and, of course, critically assess the overall content offering.

Just means costs will have to increase for those that sell locally as they will need to pay VAT.
I don't disagree with the concept, though the breadth of this change is large.

Can't believe people are still watching DSTV and Netflix and paying for it.
If you have at least 20mb fibre - Download modbro from the internet on your smart TV - more channels and movies there than you'll have time to watch - and it's free.
On your computer watch cricfree for all the UK soccer - also free.
Then there's Vader and Morpheus - I have over 1500 channels - all free.
And no annoying PC ads - and often no ads at all.
CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox news - live TV stations in USA and UK.
The "Gold" channel on modbro shows all the old pom TV series - Dad's Army, Gavin and Stacey, Fools and Horses, Mash, Allo Allo,
Stopped paying DSTV over a year ago now.
Have down loaded so much stuff I could run my own TV station!!

Wonder when multichoice will follow suit or just bang another pricehike onto their sheep

There isn't competition here so that will help dstv screw the masses for a while longer.
Every time I stay somewhere with dstv I wonder why people waste that money, reason usually is sport.
