OUTA has claimed that 72% of all invoices issued by SANRAL for e-tolls remain unpaid.

With a credit collection record like that no commercial entity can survive!

An advocate wrote a column in Mail and Guardian some time ago stating that should SANRAL take to the courts to get their money they will collapse the judicial system in Gauteng making it impossible to get real criminal and other cases on the court rolls for years to come. That in turn would lead to serious protests from attorneys and advocates who cannot function - and therefore cannot earn - under such conditions!

Yes - collapse of E-tolls must be imminent. The people have spoken by simply not paying, the most effective form of protest.

We tried to pay a toll fee and got the run around from the help desk and the bank refused the payment.

e-toll....burn in hell, together with scamral.

Let's say in the highly unlikely case scamral wins the court battles. Then we all have to pay probably billions if you take the preposterous interest payable in consideration. Based on a fairly recent question in furniture city (parliament), the majority of this money will go to kapsch in Austria. Do you know what this is going to do to the exchange rate?

If this kind of collective behaviour became more common place when faced with governmental corruption, over-reach etc the world would be a much better place.

I hope the whole thing fails and the dodgy investors get their come-uppance.

I just hope there is no sweetheart deal with Kapsch as I understand there is with Gautrain - if there aren't the estimated number of passengers (revenue), the "state" picks up the tab.

Their latest thing is to try and intimidate people into paying by issuing summonses.

I received one.

My attorney and I have decided to have a bit of fun with them. The amount is less than R3000 so I doubt VERY much they will want to spend effort on this. They haven't replied to our first salvo and I doubt they will. I am really enjoying this!!!!

You will not believe the number of SMSs I receive stating that I owe money and threats of legal action ... none of which relate to me. Hence, I ignore all such SMSs.

In an article during the beginning of e-toll Beeld newspaper apparently reported that for every Rand only 20 cents go to pay the road. WTF? Also, the consumer protection act clearly states that a business entity cannot charge me for something I haven't received/ used. Guess who uses gantries to charge you for a piece of toll road you haven't used in some cases? The list goes on.

Typical cANCer mentality - they don't test their own skewed rules & regulations against their laws approved by their parliament. So eventually it goes to the ConCourt where it sinks (and the tax payer foot all the legal bills).
