Far cheaper to go offgrid and pay for extra security.
Just saying..
That's assuming your motivation to emigrate is safety & security. And even then you can't live in a fortress, you have to get out and buy food and travel to work etc.

There may be a misconception that Saffers living abroad often get together, braaing under an umbrella  , to mope and bitch about SA's problems. Why they moved, blaming this and that.... couldn't be further from the truth, at least within the quite large group of expats I know and mingle with.
heinrich,

Not?? You just burst my bubble......................................it was one of the things (not the umbrella bit) that I was looking so much forward to!

Presumably the cost of immigrating differs widely depending on the destination?
The cost of renting certainly differs. Here in Spain, at least the area where I live, landlords only require 1 month in advance, so there is a saving of at least Eu 1200

Paul,

We are seeing more and more countries starting to stop the influx of "unskilled" or "non affluent" migrants.
There is a tendency to require large cash deposits or start a business / invest in a local business to obtain a Visa.
Easiest way is still work sponsored / or Retirement Visa (as long as they allow it).
