Good info in that doc without frills and to the point. Sums up the whole deal, both SARB and SARS =D>

Seems this is the route many are taking, myself included. See what happens in 19' and take it from there. doesn't hurt to have everything prepared before then!
So where are you going Phoenix? I see you are selling your aircraft owing to you now emigrating.

"Brissy mate!" Was going to wait and see what happens with elections in 2019, thinking if the DA won, things will change. I quickly came to realise that all political parties in SA are as useless as the rest - and I have 3 beautiful young lives that deserve a better future!

As much as I love RSA, my opinion/research is that there is way too much against it to change in a way I dream and hope it would, at least not in my lifetime.
the sky is the limit.

A small question: what is the most efficient way to buy forex / convert ZAR? I'm presently using FNB for modest amounts (R20k to R50k) and its costing me just under 5% per transaction.

My preferred option. Fastest, cheapest. Work through Merchantile bank
Currencies Direct
www.currenciesdirect.co.za

Ask for Shaun Hess

Alternatively Sable International who open an Investec account for you and from there you convert/send.
Ask for Anita Huizer

U can PM for their contact details

From Pauls PDF
It seems they contradict themselves wrt Financial emigration (FE).

From
Point 3. Financial emigration is a process where you change your residency status
, which does effect your tax status.
FE could take up to 6 months to pass through SARS/SARB, and you'll have residue tax to pay.

When applying for this you've been overseas a while so the
(1) Ordinarily resident test:
and the
(2) Physical presence test:
are also non issues.

No one applies for FE if they do not have a definite destination. If that is the case they'll be SA resident and pay SA tax anyway.

Could it be that the figures of at least the Middle East are "inflated" due to the fact that it is not possible or maybe difficult in some of those countries to get citizenship?
Effectively everybody stays foreigners?
I think most of the population of UAE are foreigners.

True, almost impossible to get citizenship in the mid east countries. 25 years residence, fluent in Arabic, understanding of the Muslim religion and traditions, etc etc..Only then can you apply for citizenship!
