Any VW Beetle fundis on the forum?

Unread post by V5 - LEO » Fri Apr 26, 2019 12:24 pm

...hi gents, busy restoring a '72 beetle for a mate, wiring was horrendous - in specific I am looking at help from the little "box" mounted at firewall between motor and cabin, some thin red wire that seems to have lost the "where do I belong" position after been cut?

...txs RET, that is the name for it Ian, the central plug. The red wire along with wires to the alternator (aftermarket) comes from the central plug, the red wire baffles me.

...txs UD , think it is for the electric choke then, all other wires have a nest.

Then there is up front (fuse box) also two wires I need confirmation from, but will post pics a bit later. Obrigado

Not sure about the central plug but you could be right about the electric choke.
the brown wires will be earths yes.
the white wire on the fuse box doesn't look standard, maybe its was for a aftermarket steering wheel hooter.

found some info on the central plug, seems it was used as a diagnostic port for the VW dealer.
