I wish I could get hold of the personal numbers of the numpties at the DA who think annoying people by spamming them with SMSes and emails is good marketing and PR. Would love to turn the tables on them by auto-sending oodles of their own spam back to them at all hours of the day and night.

I used the "opt out" story and it ended right there.

I was also getting miffed at all the SMSs and voice calls received from the DA (plus one or two SMSs from the ANC!), but decided that if they wanted to waste their money on sending me messages, then that's their problem ... until I received an SMS from the DA advising me that my voting venue had changed. I'd not have known otherwise.

Its an important election for them and all those who are tired of the current status quo... apathy is a major problem and while I too dont like to be spammed, one has to try and understand the urgency and desperation to try and change things.

Put your phone on silent at night time, grin and bear it for awhile... surely not too much to ask to try and get things moving in the country for a very important issue :?:

They dont know you are a cynical, possibly educated white dude who has likely made up his mind and has all the information at his fingertips to make an educated decision... whatever that may be :!: :!: :!: :!: :?

....glad that it went fairly calm - overheard this chirp today " ...no that voting is over, when will loadshedding kick in?"

Logistically an election in a country as diverse and underdeveloped as SA must be massive... speaking purely from my own perception it was fairly well handled... so regardless of the outcome, people are voting, votes are counted and we continue on for another 4 years... so with the courts seemingly doing well, free and fair elections, we have some things to be grateful for.

Democracy at work even if its not in everyone's favor :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

If you saw anything untoward such as not having to fill in a VEC4 form to vote at a poling station where you are not registered or the ink rubbing off - PLEASE report it. You can report it at https://resolve.voteda.org/forms/e-day

(Not political discussion, just quick snapshot of the results so far - Lifted from News24)

For those interested, the raw vote total projections right now (with 68% of the vote counted):

Total votes: 17 389 163
ANC votes: 9 963 276
DA votes: 3 637 632
EFF votes: 1 807 273
IFP votes: 609 863
FF+ votes: 461 573

That's a projected 65% overall turnout by the way.

It makes me despondent to see that but still no surprise! Just proves once again that democracy is unsuited to governance in Africa when 25 years of thieving and betrayal can be applauded and rewarded in this manner!

While we wait for the results here's an interesting infographic about big elections. SA has about 35m registered voters. How about India! ...
