Why is it that people with channels seem to end up getting hurt?

I think that may be more about perception than reality.
People who have an strong online presence and film their activities are far more likely to be noticed than people who don't have any online presence.

One example that comes to mind is the death of glider and airline pilot Matt Wright (Youtube handle "Balleka").
His death made BBC, major UK news media outlets, many online websites, forums, etc.
However there have been numerous fatal glider accidents since then which barely made one paragraph in local news papers likely because the deceased was not an "online celebrity".

Of course there is also the aspect of people who film themselves showing off or being distracted but I don't know if is the main cause of accidents.

The masses also like to gawk at accident footage and share it which means it's more likely to go viral.
Everyone knows about the video footage of a guy who hits a bridge on the N12 at 200km/h but who remembers the paragraph in a newspaper about the jaywalker who gets hit by a truck in Pofadder?

RIP fellow aviator.

This one comes to mind. Look at the Gopro array.
