We went for a group training session in a gym with Raid security. Time well spent.Depending on your background, recommended.

If I may ask
What is the purpose of this poll

If you want to see interesting results do a poll about who has ever used their SD firearm to protect themselves
And what the circumstances were

Being involved with firearms and self defense most of my life it's interesting to see how the numbers stack up. Definitely not interested in getting into a debate about it although others are welcome to.
Your welcome to start a poll that answers the questions you would like to know that's what I did.

I believe Security companies are responsible for crime.
If there is no crime, they will be out of business.

The need for an effective self defence tool goes hand in hand with the incidence of crime, as there is violent intent in even petty crime these days. Ample proof of that MO increasing. The increasing contact crime trend in SA - needs no introduction.

Not everyone's choice to own a firearm, as it comes with a lot of additional responsibility.

Other people will prefer to apply their fanbelt in spanner throwing, or that white belt in Lei Ying Lo....each to their own

A self-defense firearm is worth nothing unless you are WELL trained on it. I'm not talking about the "license course" but ongoing tactical weapon training! Otherwise its safer to leave your piece at home...

or if you have one, and never practice with it, and never clean it, best to get rid of it...

Frans,

No matter how well you are trained in using it - you have to be prepared to USE it.
Shooting someone is not everyone's cup of tea and it can have long lasting effects on a person.
(and not only on the one that was shot)

I dont think reasonable people buy a SD firearm for the purpose of WANTING to shoot someone - its a last resort thing to protect your own right to life. But you must be willing to use it - if you have no other choice.

True! The right training also 'prepare' you to use it..

That's why I don't own a self defence weapon..
