I contacted GOSA some time ago when my AR15 license was rejected. They told me i would not get the license..

Myself, being registered as a dedicated hunter and sport shooter, refused to give up. I met a clever lawyer (who happens to be a gun collector also) and filed an appeal. Couple of months later i got my license.. =D>

Now that i will be moving to the Kalahari the AR will come in handy for jackal and wild bore hunts.
 You should have spend your money on a decent scope and a thick barrel if you plan to shoot jackal......you would not find to many "wild bore" in the Kalahari. a Accurate rifle would however have advantages for springbok.
Marius, i have plenty...

308 Musgrave single shot (plank) thick barrel for competitions
30-06 Musgrave Model 83 for those walk and Stalk hunts
204 Howa Varminter thick barrel for varminting

And a few more handguns, semi-auto shotgun etc...

All of my rifles have decent scopes 8)

The 204 is sweet! I have hunted anything from small deer (springbok, duiker) to using it for competition. I just love the 204!

The single shot 308 i have also used for large game (kudu, eland). It is just heavy and not suitable for walk and stalk hunts.

The AR is just a toy and fun to shoot...

What consequences will there be for gun owners after the Supreme Court found in favour of the SAPS last week? :?

It seems we are awaiting announcement of a new amnesty. Right now the 2009 judgement protecting the lifetime licences issued under the old Arms and Ammunition Act of 1969 which preceded the FCA of 2000, remain valid but the FCA licences which have been allowed to expire by the owners will likely be subject to a new arrangement.

Simply put - hand in the gun, or keep it illegally! Tough call for over 400 000 gun owners.

GOSA will advise as more info becomes available - keep in touch at their FB page, consider joining for the pittance of R100 p.a as the fight will continue and money is needed for that!

+1 on joining GOSA if you own a firearm and are not a member you are really taking a free ride.

Parliament approved a new amnesty period to hand in weapons as from the 1st of August till 31 January 2021. During the previous amnesty period, from December 2019 till May 2020, 46 714 weapons were handed in.

Hi Whirly.

The amnesty is not only to surrender firearms, but those with expired white licenses can now reapply for them in order to get them legalized as well.

This will probably be the last opportunity for those with expired licenses.
