Sugar Tax? :? Funny thing is, Coke with no sugar (I can't seem to find Coke Lite anymore) is not any cheaper.

...not a big coke fan myself, prefer pepsi to coke and cannot refuse an ice cold stoney ginger beer. For klippies, drinking it with water and ice for a long long time now

The simple answer is that life is getting more expensive, what you are seeing is just a symptom of all those things you put in the shopping trolley creeping upwards in price.
Go back a few years and see what your typical shop cost, then look now.
It's not just coke.

It is called "shrinkflation" and is a legitimate retail pricing strategy. When the normal inflation adjusted price breaches a psychological barrier the retailers reduce the size instead.

For two liters of Coke ???
Last December I was in Oz and struggled to find a small 0.5 liter bottle of water for under $2.00 ! You can find them but not easily and only in some supermarkets hidden out of the way - most small bottles of water are $2.50 and more !
Who said the sky is the limit ? I think not.

If only there was a way to protest against this monopolistic practices.
Lets start our own chocolate factory and sell it directly to the market.

I don't drink coke though.

Not just that, have you noticed the last 5- 10 years, the taste have become less and less tasteful, i wonder what is the latest and greatest cheapest "inflation" agents they add to it these days just so they can sucker more consumers and fatten their already overindulged pockets.

I'm certain that they have a marketing department that has got nothing to do each day than to think of more greedy strategies to BS the end consumer.

Global initiatives (and taxes) to reduce sugar has been forcing manufacturers to change recipes.
You can't buy Fanta, spaberry, creme soda, stoney etc (the full fat versions) without consuming sweeteners that have been added to reduce sugar.
They hide this fact and stick a "lower calories" label on it.
I would rather consume sugar than the other chemicals which have other issues.
The taste is different, sweeteners leave a funny aftertaste.

I don't mind smaller bars as there is less temptation to consume more than you should, just don't charge me for a whole one then give half.
