AFAIK they're working on have her extradited, but it's slow going in Zim with not a lot of cooperation being shown.

It's a sad day when diplomatic immunity is used to avoid paying for straightforward criminal actions. I guess it must overall work to advantage in international relations (otherwise it would have been revised by now) but sometimes one is left wondering - why the hell should their family members be entitled?

This American Anne Sacoolas not only told the local bobbies that she would cooperate fully when confessing to be at fault at the time of the accident that killed the young Brit, but then slipped out of the country ASAP and is now uncontactable and unreachable. The Americans are refusing to wiave diplomatic immunity. So much for decency ...

Should do it the american way of a drone strike on her last known residence in the early hours of the morning ,
just email her the immunity withdrawn notice 20 mins before.

On a more serious note i do hope her husband and family have all been deported as persona non grata for perverting the course of justice.

Unfortunately not. They left the UK in the normal way on a normal flight under the protective cloak of diplomatic immunity. Even if she went back to the UK she could not be prosecuted unless the USA govt was prepared to waive diplomatic immunity. I would think they left just not to be pestered by the UK tabloids who are not known for their restraint when chasing a story

I think the whole thing smacks a bit of them and us. Sure she should not have left or been granted immunity, by all accounts she was not drunk, and is simply guilty of negligent driving. There was no recklessness or intent, merely a moments confusion with a tragic ending. I doubt she would have received anything more than a suspended sentence. But who knows in this media obsessed nuthouse.

There are thousands upon thousands of things that happen here every day which are much much worse, all done with intent, but they don't make good press, or don't fit the narrative.

I personally think that the idea of diplomatic immunity should not extend past things done in your official capacity, but hey what do I know?

One of these "diplomats" murdered his Swedish girlfriend and tossed her body in a wheelie bin. Not much howling about that funnily enough.
The older I get, the more I am convinced that "A Confederacy of Dunces" is non fiction.
