Not wanting to detract from the Mriya thread, I copy/pasted this from that thread :

I wouldn't be surprised! They are hard on the look for world sympathy/funding.
They are even shortlisted for EU membership recently. In other words their strategy is working... :D
This makes sense to you: destroy swathes of your country, kill tens of thousands of your countrymen, dress your own as Russian soldiers and rape your women, dogs and children, destroy your economy ... just to join the EU a little faster (hint: this will several years)?

Oh, and the other side intermittently admit that they are invading Ukraine.

#-o
Now you're running away with it Lupe! Go drink a chill pill! :)
Fransw is totally on the right track. Zelenskyy is "demanding" $50 billion from NATO. I say make the NATO member countries pay an additional NATO tax and relieve America from the overriding burden of financing NATO as Trump was saying. Then we will see the squealing begin.

A serious psychological blow to the Zelensky junta, and loss of prestige for ‘western allies.

They did take that area no doubt, but that means what exactly? That the war is being won by the russians or that the defenders did a tactical retreat to a rear defensive line. Taking that area has cost the sepratist army a huge number of people. They have taken the "rubble" of whats left. Not really a great victory I would think

In any language that means that there are no Ukies there, they ran away, abandoned their 8 year old positions and the population can come outdoors and enjoy life again. Using SA as an example, this would be the same as the old Boer Republics being freed from the British Empire.

Silly silly....I did not say that.
I was suspicious of the website and their one sided view...
Quote..."The Saker sounds like a really impressive guy; with integrity. “Defiant towards authority”. Wow. We all want to be like The Saker. His defiance is, unfortunately, very much one-sided. He is devotedly aligning himself with anything that the Kremlin says. Ukraine is ruled by Nazis; The Baltic States are Aggressive; Russia is bringing peace to Syria. Virtually anything the Kremlin lies about is repeated, faithfully, by The Saker: MH17, Skripal – even the Eurovision Song Contest is narrated the Kremlin way."

Falling back to a rear defensive line is far from giving up the fight and running away as you suggest. Those who remained kept the superior russian military back for a long time and made them pay for every meter of land. This gave the reargaurd allot of time to prepare defensive lines and with new long range weapons coming, in a tactical retreat was the right way to go.
I compare it to the "tactical retreat" from dunkirk.....those troops were able to go back and take the main land, troops that fell back now will be able to fight another day.

Just like the brits having to pay bitterly for their fight against 80 odd K untrained "farmers" with almost 500K troops the boers als know when to as you say "run away" to fight another day.

@ 5:30 mark: 'they just left everything behind' is not a tactical withdrawl.
