A google search suggests the aircraft to be just over seven years old.

From the close ups of the damaged engine, the internals look to be in pristine condition ... would this be representative of an engine being on the wing and in service for the same period?

Surely the fan as a unit would have had to disintegrate to destroy that cowling. If the cone spinner thing they are mounted on disintegrated for whatever reason, the blades will fly out along the rotational axis due to centrifugal force, the forward velocity will be the same as the engine, although the air flowing through the engine would/could 'suck' some loose ones in that rebounded of the cowling.

Have a look at the 11 o'clock on the stator in those engine pic, part of a fan blade?

Close-up, trimmed and played with contrast / brightness of the engine pic on the previous page

That is a blade stuck against the stator, possibly two.

Debris from Air France Airbus A380 flight AF66 engine that failed on a transatlantic flight last week has been found in a remote part of Greenland.

According to danish helicopter that spotted the debris, the recorded data from the Paris CDG-Los Angeles flight pinpointed the position of the incident.

The engine parts were found on an icy desert area 150km (95 miles) south-east of Paamiut town, Greenland.

Its a bit different, exact timing and position of the incident narrows down the possible location area of the debris.

Now they've found the missing bits they can fix the engine and carry on their journey. Yay.

Air France plans return of engine-failure A380 from Goose Bay

The Air France Airbus A380 that was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Canada two months ago after one of its four engines failed is expected to return to scheduled service in January.

The A380, operating as flight AF66 and powered by Engine Alliance GP7200 engines, was enroute from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Los Angeles LAX Sept. 30 when it diverted to Goose Bay, Canada, following the uncontained engine failure.

On Nov. 23, an Antonov 124M freighter ferried a new GP7200 to Goose Bay with a new.

An Air France spokesperson told ATW that the plan is to install the new engine and fly the A380 to Charles de Gaulle by Dec. 6, then return the aircraft to normal operations from January.

A team of Air France and Airbus technicians is on site in Goose Bay.

“Air France has a huge fleet of long-haul aircraft and we have been able to replace the missing A380 without needing to cancel flights,” the spokesperson said.

AF66 was carrying 497 passengers and 24 crew members; no-one was injured.

Air France has just confirmed to us that F-HPJE is indeed operating on 4 engines back to Paris.

Appears the aircraft was able to be repaired to a state where a 3-engine ferry was not necessary.
