Rwy 16 active in FACT?

Unread post by Fralk » Thu Feb 07, 2019 10:28 am

ATIS advises: Rwy 19 blocked advise if not able to use Rwy 16. Anyone know the reason for this?
Would be interesting to see the A340, 747 and A350 that are inbound land on such a short runway.

Red Cross Air Mercy PC12 came to a standstill on Runway 19 just short of Charlie.
I was on D1 doing hover practice.
Most impressive was the Mango 737 stuck at the hold of 19 that did a 180 degree turn and then
took off from RWY 16. Kudos to those guys for quick thinking.

I doubt there was any quick thinking involved. The crew would have looked at the numbers, run a calculation to see if they were legal and the a/c performance was suitable.. Im sure they followed SOP...

An aircraft with a flat tyre stuck on a runway is one thing, but airliners being put in a holding pattern due to a broken down vehicle on a runway is a bit crazy, as has happened to us on 1 February. We were due to land ten minutes early, but ended up landing ten minutes late on rwy 16, as did a few other airliners behind us.
Dirk de Vos

If you don't gear up your brain before takeoff, you'll probably gear up your airplane on landing.
