Stick & Rudder by Wolfgang Langewiesche

Unread post by jbirdj66 » Sat Feb 09, 2019 11:50 pm

I've been flying for about 3 years. I wish to goodness I'd found out about the above reference book and read it BEFORE I started flying. Considered "The Bible for pilots" amongst many flying forums in the U.S., this book, though written in in 1944, explains in easy to understand detail, the mechanics of flight. Answered a tonne of questions none of my instructors explained to me and has definitely made me a better pilot. This book should be made mandatory reading for every student pilot. If you're a student pilot, do yourself a favor and read it. You'll be glad you did. I got my copy off Amazon. Not sure if any of the pilot shops in SA sell it, but they should!

Absolutely right, jbird. A brilliant book - wonderfully simple and it explains flight far better than any other book before or since.

Read it shortly after getting PPL rated in Jan 1977. Definitely recommended!

Yes the schools should put this in the Student Pilot bags when they sell the bags to new students.

I bought a copy last year at the Pilot Shop on second floor Lanseria last year. Was the last copy on the rack but surely they will get in on a regular basis.

Don't believe what I post, research what I post....
They have a book on how to take my money away? When did this happen......
