1948 Ryan Navion following a 9.5 year ground up restoration. Power plant is a Conti IO520 swinging a McCauley 3 blade prop.

Thanks for the kind words guys, i must say, i'm enjoying flying her more & more every flight. It seems all the long hours are finally paying off!

Rob. I am slightly gobsmacked. I was reading your article about your Navion in Airnews and saw that in 1964 a JE Hobson paid R 2.10 for registration and airworthiness certificate. This was my late father, a farmer close to Port Elizabeth. Unfortunately he had a heart attack shortly afterwards and sadly gave the Navion up round about 1965/66. She was then red, but I remember the tip tanks (was only six years old at the time). This aircraft took our whole family of six to Nelspruit where we carried on to the Kruger park. If you are interested, I can try dig up some photo's. I am very glad to hear she is up and running again! Enjoy!

Hi there, i only saw your post now. Thank you for the response, it's great to hear from the previous owners of this grand old bird. When i was down in Margate for the EAA convention, i met up with Charles Maasdorp & his fine son & took them for a little jolly down the coast. I let Charles pole his old baby for a while & he loved it.( Charles owned the Navion after your dad did) I would love to get my hands on some of the old photos. I'm not certain where you reside but i'm sure we can meet up sometime so that you too can take flight in her again.
