SAA Second Officer

Unread post by Flight Sim101 » Thu Apr 25, 2019 4:53 pm

Hi all,

What are the current requirements for this position at SAA? I heard 250 hours and a CPL is all you need, is this the case?

Is there anyone here that's currently in this position or does anyone have information on this position as I'd love to join the national carrier(brand new CPL), but I need some questions answered.

Thanks all.

I would be extremely surprised if SAA is recruiting pilots.

Exact same story with SAX. And then people wonder why this country loses so many professionals to foreign companies.

If They have no requirement for crew, why would they recruit? A bit of a silly statement

SAA is really short of crew. (Pilots and Technicians)

They will definitely be hiring pilots this year.
Ask any of your mates flying at SAA...i don’t think second officers though. It would probably be direct entry onto the A320 as a FO.

SAA is desperately short of pilots in all positions except for narrow-body Captains. When they opened up contracts to pilots they did not anticipate how many would leave. Then when they stopped releasing pilots on contract, quite a few with job offers overseas simply resigned, including many PDI pilots.

Flights are being cancelled due to a lack of pilots. I believe 4 narrow-body flights were cancelled last Saturday alone due to no FO's being available.

A word of caution: If you are white there is literally no chance of being hired. SAA will do anything to avoid hiring white pilots again.

Not white, unfortunately, I read SAA ditched their 737's, deal breaker, definitely not flying Airbuses. How are they short of pilots yet they aren't recruiting? Did they really not anticipate people leaving them for better pay/living conditions?
