Unread post by sweeterz » Sat May 04, 2019 6:55 am

Just seen a YouTube video report from DJs Aviation that a Miami Air 737 has slidden off the runway at Jacksonville into a river... luckily everyone seems to be okay!

Apparently there was a whole lot of bouncing going on - I have to wonder if the ground spoilers were not armed.

never much fun to approach and land in thunderstorms, and even more difficult to consider going around back into that awefull black and turbulent stuff, if you "think" you have got the runway "made"

Maybe if they stayed on the hard surface the brakes wouldve held them?

provided that they got onto the hard surface near the landing zone, and at the appropriate landing speed

If they had stayed straight that walkway would have taken apart the fuselage and things could have looked worse, but the speed must have been quite slow into the water, so they might well have stopped on the runway extension. In slimy circumstances - a quick decision to make.

I wonder if they managed to save the animals (pets presumably) that were in the hold.

I don't think the two cats and a dog were saved as the cargo area was under water. :(
How come every time my ship comes in I'm at the airport?
