Arthur it can take up to a week before they acknowledge receipt and assign an official to your renewal. My opinion is also that you might end up causing a confusion by copying it to another address as well.

Yes a inspector has been asigned aswell. He is taking his time. Our AMO has been following up. It has been with the inspector more than 6 weeks.

Last we heard from him he told us his manager has to sign the ATF off. It is now 6 days later.

I just want to know why a process that took 3 hours with RAASA now takes 7 to 8 weeks?

That sounds bad. Not too long ago I have a similar experience just to find out that the assigned official is in hospital.

they are deliberately not assigning within 7 days of receipt, when u complain they actually enjoy it (makes them feel the job is relevant...not). But you SHOULD paper trail them with complaints to clientcare@caa.co.za and Madira.

Took me a whole day to get all the documents for my ATF renewal ready after my inspection was finally done.
Send it all to atf@caa.co.za 30 days before the current one expires , got a response for allocation to Silas S Motsoko after 10 Days, was very worried after reading all the previous posts, was to busy to enquire about progress , got a email last night at 8.58 pm , day 16 , with my new ATF attached , still IFR Day and Night included , So yes no longer 2 hrs at RAASA offices, but I'm very happy under the new circumstances , it was the same as last year and the year before

After I threw my toys today I miraculously got a response from CAA. Seems like the application jumped from one table to the other... It has only been assigned 6 days ago (yes they cannot complete it in 6 days) although my application was submitted early in October already.

I do not know how some of you get so lucky... but I never had great luck with CAA, whether it is a license or ATF renewal.

I renewed my PPL recently and also got the new card license.
I must say that it was a painless exercise and I have to give credit when due.
It does seem that things have changed for the better recently at least.
I also experienced a lot of frustration in the past and dreaded any dealings with the CAA.
Nowadays the phones are actually answered and I even got a call when my license was ready for collection.
Now for the soon to do ATF and I'm holding thumbs that things will go as smooth..

On the license front, I have received service in a reasonable time period (5-7 days). If anyone else think this is reasonable then DM me and I will send the details of those at the CAA that are capable.

OK, let's see what happens this year. Submitted last week, 12.01.2022. No news so far (7 days).
In 2021 I submitted on 13 January - and it took 44 days.
I'm by no means negative, just a tad pessimistic based on last year's experience.

Got my ATF 20 days later - an improvement.

Submitted my initial ATF application on 15 Nov 2021. After some intervention on 26 Jan 2022, i got slapped the next day with an invoice for document assessment (4 hrs @ R900.00 p/h).
Paid the amount and ATF was issued via e-mail on Thursday the 3rd. The year before with my Proving flight application i got charged for 2 hrs @ R850.00 p/h.

Most of you remember during 2020 the Aero Club hosted a web based system to support maintenance & proficiency flights during lockdown, which was developed by a few of our members within a record time frame. As it involved the upload and verification of documents and an approval cycle by the CAA, this system became the basis for extending the development into a fully-fledged ATF renewal system – which is now known as AeroAssist.

AeroAssist is a web based system that can be used by members of Aero Club to facilitate Authority to Fly applications with CAA.
The functionality of the system allows for the upload of all required documentation that must be submitted with the application. Aircraft details and applicable documentation will be saved to a master document set for the aircraft and will be available for subsequent applications; making it easier for the user the next time an application is submitted.
Applicants are kept up to date with regards to application progress via their preferred communication method - sms or e-mail. When the Authority to Fly has been issued by CAA, it will be stored in the system and automatically e-mailed to the applicant.
As an additional service, we also send a reminder at the appropriate time when an Authority to Fly is due.
