Good day,
I would like to get into paramotoring. But of course would like to keep the costs as low as possible.
Can anyone perhaps point me in the right direction. How does one start? Is there perhaps a market for a second hand paramotor?
Also where can I go for training etc? I weigh 95 kg. I will need all the gear.
Dumb question: Is there a place where you can hire and fly a paramotor or do you need to have your own?
I do have a fixed wing PPL so I am not completely new to aviation.
Thanks in advance.

You can usually do your training with flight school equipment, maybe just get yourself a decent helmet setup and radio as it’s more personal and helps to have a proper headset with radio connection. Don’t try to teach yourself by watching YouTube videos as the guys in the US sometimes do.
Get a good book/s first and read as much as possible to really understand it. It’s not as intuitive as flying aircraft, unless you have free flight paragliding or skydiving experience.
Good books are: Powered Paragliding Bible & Paramotoring:
the Essential Guide
Also highly recommend Sebastian/Basjan, also part of Apex Adventures. He is down in Stilbaai but in Centurion Riaan operates the school. You can’t go wrong with either.
Be wary of 2nd hand market unless it’s from someone via the above mentioned flying school or anyone that is referred. I am contemplating selling my wing and motor, as I just don’t have the time for it and it’s something you need to practice regularly to be safe. So if you do decide to buy equipment let me know.
Good luck and it’s definitely the coolest flying I’ve done.

Re: New to Paramotoring
Hi Alan, thank you very much. This is very helpful. I was hoping there was a way to do the training before buying equipment. I will definitely give the guys a call at Apex. Thank you for the recommendation about the books. I will buy myself a book.Alan Yeld wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 3:12 pm You can usually do your training with flight school equipment, maybe just get yourself a decent helmet setup and radio as it’s more personal and helps to have a proper headset with radio connection.
