Hi Jean,

currently it is going slow. COVID made it real difficult... I am going back to work (finally) this week after spending 8 months at home.

hi

I have ordered a new cowling, as I will likely revert to a Revmaster engine. The wings are almost done, just needs a repaint. I am currently away from home, but will send some updates when I made some progress.

Shucks, after all your effort with the rotax, why the change back to revmaster?

I am going to install the Rotax in my Sonex (Waiex), as it makes better financial sense and the Waiex is a much newer aircraft. Also, the engine makes the cowling quite a bit longer, which will probably adversely affect stability.

The Sonerai begs for a 6 cyl jabi engine. Not a donkey 😄

I see this is an old thread, I ended up here researching Rotax's in Sonerai's. I have a similar conundrum. I am building a Sonerai and have a 912 in a box. I also have a flying Sonex with a 3300.

Thinking with the heart and not the head, I would like to put the 3300 in the Sonerai and the rotax in the Sonex. Thinking with the head this would leave me without a flying aircraft and will required 2 firewall forward installs. ( A lot of work! )

The Sonerai would be a lot of fun with 120hp Jabiru 3300. My previous Sonerai had a 2200 jab

If the original poster is still here? That is one nice looking Sonerai and I am curious as to what the wire pulley thing is under the rear seat. Trim?

Hi, I am still here. I also fly a Waiex, which originally had a Jab 2200 installed. I am in the process of installing a Rotax 95 Xtra, the one that was installed in the Sonerai. I am currently looking at other engine options, as I felt that the Rotax will be better utilized in the Waiex.

The project is still ongoing. The wings have finally been painted and ready for installation. The project is slowly coming along. I now just need to decide which engine route I want to go...

Could you maybe share a few pictures of your Jab 2200 installation in the Sonerai?

Jacques

Hi Jacques. Thanks for your reply and appologies for my slow reply. I found a few grainy old photos of the Jabiru install. Also added a photo of the plane. The cowl was supplied as part of a firewall fwd kit that Jabiru sold. I was never happy with the look of the cowl.

Restoration is coming along slowly. I refurbished my Waiex in between, so now that it’s done I will continue on the Sonerai.
