Circuits at FABW? More than likely AIFA training a/c.
Circuits at George. All 3 came from BW. I just found it odd because you don't normally see flight schools doing circuit training at 2am
In the old day one could do circuits and instrument approaches in a light aircraft at Jan Smuts (now OR Tambo) after 12am.
So taking off from Lanseria at 12am and returning 2am was not out the ordinary
Now they never want you there

Maybe George only allows these flights at that time when there is no commercial traffic ??

The RAF have an A330MRTT and A400 on permanent deployment down there. They are there to support the fighter aircraft down there. They are rotated back to Brize every few weeks.

In addition, Air Tanker do a twice weekly schedule down there from Brize, often stopping at Ascension Island. These are commercial flights and military personnel and civilians make use of them

How would I find out about a US-registered Dassault Falcon that departed Oribi in PMB at about 5pm yesterday? Can't see anything on Flight Radar (but maybe I'm using it wrong).
Plane was there to pick up two -- maybe three (?) people -- involved with the Comrades marathon. The one pax had to hobble -- very stiffly to the a/c ... while still carrying her own bag.
Airport staffer told me the plane was there "for the race" but could say no more.

This is actually OM4 of the BDF, delivered a few weeks ago to them. Obviously still pinging as it's original USAF serial.

Hi, Guys

I am flying on Qatar QR 256 to Larnaca shortly, and was having a look at this flight-number's history for fun ..... I see on FR24 that 9 of the last 9 flights have diverted to Beirut, with only 2 of them forwarding to Larnaca ..... is this a glitch in the system, or what ? ... I would rather get to Larnaca than Beirut any day.

Hope someone can enlighten me here, Ta

Hi Charles
I do this flight every 4 weeks it arrives in larnaca
The issue seems to be with the gps
The last flight out of larnaca was delayed by over
An hour due to the gps not working
The pilot said due to the conflict in nearby Israel
Is causing the issue
I have heard from a few people leaving larnaca
On other airlines with the same issue

When you try and use the navigation app WAZE
On the iPhone it showes your phone is in Beirut
And not Cyprus
I am sure this is the same issue the airlines are having

Regards

Falcon 900EX N719SH

Flew Durban, PMB, JHB

Came to JHB from Riyad Saudi Arabia couple days before and then to Durban before the race

Its been operating from JHB to CPT, various African countries, The Middle East and Japan for months, with a stint in the USA for a while before returning

There are pictures of her landing in JHB as far back as 2021

Interestingly the USA trust company she is registered is also registered as the owner of 3 ex SAA A340-600 (ex ZS-SNE, ZS-SNH and ZS-SNI)

There are two very different reasons that US trusts (not companies) are often used in aircraft ownership and there are several established aviation trust services, some run by banks and others independently operated (TVPX is independently operated). They specialise in providing these services for aircraft.

In the case of N719SH, it's likely that the aircraft is owned by a non-US person or entity, or an entity not controlled by a US person or entity. For an FAA registration (like this aircraft), the trust (i.e. TVPX) is the owner of the aircraft, with the beneficial owners being the beneficiary of the trust. In all likelihood, the underlying owner is a business entity registered in tax efficient domicile (not the US), but the aircraft is to be operated in the US (hence the N registration). So the trust acts as a guarantor of sorts to get a US registration.

In the case of the ex-SAA aircraft, they were originally owned and leased to SAA by ILFC and then AerCap (it's successor). AerCap is an Irish registered company, however most of its aircraft are financed in the US. AerCap's shares are listed on NYSE and their bonds mostly issued in the US. The covenants on these bonds are de facto secured by the aircraft, hence the ownership needs to be controlled through a US trust to ensure enforceability of the covenants under US law.

Many leased aircraft are leased via aviation trusts and it's not unique to the US. Ultimately, whether a trust or a company structure, it'll need to be domiciled in the jurisdiction where the aircraft is financed. Sometimes you'll see similar structures in Mauritius
