Then there is the Blyde River Resort on top of the Drakensberg between Hoedspruit and Lydenburg http://www.foreversa.co.za/ It is a grass strip and you only land uphill away from the resort. You will be collected by minibus at no charge.

Nyati Wilderness lies between Vaalwater and Ellisras. It is nestled in the beautiful Waterberg. It has two camps which are being extensively renovated. It caters for both eco-tourism and hunting. The one camp caters for 12 people and the other has 4 beautiful chalets overlooking a dam. It is priced so you can spend more on Avgas!
Self catering but they can cater on request. We had exceptional service from Ryno the manager, PH and also fixed wing and chopper pilot. Your plane is parked behind a electric fence and the strip is 1300m with a bit of fun to approach.

Highly recommended for a fly away, game viewing and relaxing at the pool.

Blye River Canyon - Blye Adventura


Flew into the most beautiful compact-gravel strip today, situated on the plateau of the peaks at the top of Blyde River Canyon. Strip is right next to Forever Resorts (private strip - prior permission required). Amazing accommodation available, beautiful hikes, breathtaking views, restaurant etc.

Francois, the General Manager in charge is incredibly friendly and helpful. Strip was just recently redone for the Mission Impossible filming.

Latitude: -24.5688° or 24° 34' 8" south Longitude: 30.7732° or 30° 46' 23" east
Runway: Length: 1,000m, Width: 30m
Gradient Significant gradient making shortfield landings / takeoffs far easier if wind plays along. Hence -->

NOTE: Rwy 07/25 has been abandoned and does not exist.

Rules/Regs
1. Prior permission required: francois@foreversa.co.za / +27 66 301 5841
2. Pilots to contact Hoedspruit Approach (Military) on 126.4
3. Aircraft to join overhead at an altitude of 6,000ft (2,000ft AGL) according to the joining procedures.
4. The Operator of the aircraft shall broadcast their intentions no less than 5 (five) minutes prior to landing.
5. Altitude of 2000ft AGL should be maintained until the joining point overhead and then descend should be performed as per the required safety operating instructions of the aircraft until the joining procedure and final approach to the landing strip commence.
6. Upon departure, aircraft should climb to 2000ft AGL on runway heading prior to setting course per the departure procedure.
7. Circuits to the south of the airfield.
8. No low flying or beat ups allowed in the proximity of the airfield.
9. All aircraft must be transponder equipped.
10. All relevant CAA and municipal rules must be complied with.
11. All landings must be full stop landings; no touch and go.
12. No circuit training allowed.
