Re: SAA after Business rescue
Now that is a route that would make sense!
It is really strange that there are no direct flights between South Africa and India.
There are no Indian carries serving Southern Africa.
Maybe Indigo will consider ZA once they receive their wide-bodie jets. Or perhabs Air India will return.
In the battle between aeroplanes and the ground. The ground has yet to lose.
Aviation would be great, if it wouldn't be for passengers.

South African Airways will cut frequencies on the Johannesburg – Perth route from five weekly roundtrips to three in June 2025, dropping the existing Monday and Saturday departures from Johannesburg and Tuesday and Sunday departures from Perth.

Perhaps at least something sensible, reduce frequency during the slowest time of the year.ZX357 wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2025 8:00 am https://www.aeroroutes.com/eng/250113-sa2q25per

Bargain for the crew, who'll get extra long layovers in Perth!

Had a flight with SAA, Johannesburg to Durban this morning.
Pleasantly surprised. Professional and very friendly staff, on time and a clean airplane all round great experience.
Well done SAA.

How full was your flight and were the ticket prices at the same level as the competition?Davidc wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:22 pm Had a flight with SAA, Johannesburg to Durban this morning.

Company booked the flight but I did see the price, it was similar to the competition, not sure if we get better pricing through our travel agent. Flight was supposed to be full but a lot of no shows. I would say about 75% full.GL wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 2:39 pmHow full was your flight and were the ticket prices at the same level as the competition?Davidc wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:22 pm Had a flight with SAA, Johannesburg to Durban this morning.

Fine. Just remember it is subsidized by the few taxpayers left in SA.Davidc wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:51 pmCompany booked the flight but I did see the price, it was similar to the competition, not sure if we get better pricing through our travel agent. What I find truly amazing is that some folk find it surprising that SAA conduct their flights in a satisfactory or even pleasant manner . With all the money they get to facilitate their operations why wouldn't they .
What really surprises me is these same folk seem to be oblvious of SAA achieve this .
They have squandered or stolen or embezzled R 50 BILLION of our ( Tax payers ) money over the last 20 years or so.
They have fed their subsidiary MANGO to the Wolves - staff / air crew / creditors and all and even borrowed R800 Million of their money
They have unashamedly retrenched aircrew on a racial basis .
They continue to employ on a racial basis.
They have lied about their bid to privatize the airline - that was never going to happen .
They have tried to convince the public that they are operationally profitable but as far as I can tell it's a bit of creative accounting and doesn't address the R1 BILLION owed to it by Zimbabwe that they are never going to see and that is reflected as an asset in their balance sheet.
Sorry folks but none of their shenanigans will ever convince me that they have a rightful place conducting themselves in a lawful society.

Sometimes, like in Davidc's case, he did not book the flight, so let's not crucify him please.

Re: SAA after Business rescue
I fly SAA often with no complaints. Had Airlink or Flysafair flown the route I may have used them instead, but they do not.
As an end user I go for the best deal, whether it is an airline ticket, or steak, or beer, or prostitute, I want the best bang for the buck.
The "tax payer money" argument is also a bit boring. It is SAA's money allocated to them by an (incompetent) government. Stop bashing SAA, change the government.
