This is actually a Horten H.IV glider, plenty of references to it on the net. If I search for the sparrow, I don't get any results that refer to this photo.

More pics of it below:

If you don't gear up your brain before takeoff, you'll probably gear up your airplane on landing.

This led to the Horten ho 229 jet fighter/bomber which actually flew a number of test flights just before the end of WW2 with good results.
As such it could be considered the grand father of the B2 Spirit stealth bomber.

It is quite remarkable how this came about under really impossible circumstances. It was designed to carry a 1000Kg bomb load for a distance of 1000km and a speed of 1000km/h. The design was exceptionally efficient for the time considering far less than fully developed Jumo axial flow jet engines.

Pretty sure there was one , maybe two seen at Margate EAA back in the late 1980s or perhaps early 90s! I have pics somewhere I believe. The aircraft were owned and flown by two brothers from the eastern Transvaal (Mpumulanga).

Damn, I just remembered! It was Mkuze Airport in northern KZN where the brothers kept their aircraft. Still cannot recall names though! We had a couple of EAA fly-ins there though.
