Re: Flybabies in South Africa
Aaah Mike,
And there we thought you lived in the land of stealth technology -
Or are we misinformed???
So what do you have in the hangar?
Please do tell - or better yet post a pic of the "toy room" with toys
Matt

And a quick update on VXA - she is back in the air at last - CAA have endorsed Tony Van Vliets license for the fly baby so he test flew it for me on Monday and will be able to give me the conversion. Problem solved. Couple of minor snags to sort out and I am up and riding again.
He really enjoyed flying it. Loved the open cockpit.

Re: Flybabies in South Africa
Got to see a Flybaby Bipe a few weeks ago. It needs TLC, and the owner said I could buy it for $7,000 US. I like the look of it, but for me, the original FB is still the better looking of the two.
As usual, I did not have my camera with me, so I took some photos from my phone and can't get them to my computer to post here!!

Re: Flybabies in South Africa
Hi All,
I have bought ZU-EXM from L Orsmond and am busy getting the prop re-pitched, I could only get 2200 @ 70mph on the climb 200fpm, with the C85. Prop is McCauley 71/50
ZU-EXM was imported from the States in 2007 ( N1569) and was first flown in 1968, the builder was Steve Ward.
I'm chuft to here UFI is flying again, she served me well and should never have sold her

Congrats on the purchase. Is that the one that was re-assembled at Krugersdorp after import? Hope you come right with the performance.

Re: Flybabies in South Africa
It's time to put the "energy out there" by posting that I am getting my lazy rear end into the garage again, to re-start the restoration of ZS-UFJ
My previous postings were done under "FlyBabyNut", which somehow got zapped by the Moderators - probably through lack of use!!
So, I had better get to making some visible progress on my machine, and will post some pics for modellers, and or other interested parties, to add to those above.
If anyone has servicable C-85 accessories in their cupboard, please pm me with details.
Needs/Wants for C-85:
Carb
Intake spider/manifold
mags
exhaust system
J3 Cub type cowling - (Open cylinders)
Wood prop 72" X 42"

Re: Flybabies in South Africa
I would absolutely love love love to build or restore one of these gorgeous little birds - are there any projects available in SA or is anyone offering a replica or kit?? By the way, the examples posted here are just magnificent!

Re: Flybabies in South Africa
Hi wingnutzster:
No projects that I know of - BUT ZS-BAB was bought from the guy I sold her to, and did not pay him - so she will never be transferred into his name should he want to apply for a permit to fly Seeing as I must still sign the page 8 on the CAA transfer of ownership form!!
So she may be available - as a starter, due to various parts from her having been used for another homebuilt.
Otherwise you could do some web perving as follows:
www.bowersflybaby.com
www.barnstormers.com
then go to the "experimental" section and look for the Fly Baby tab to view what is currently on the US market.
Have fun
If you want to view my project - drop me a pm or reply with your cel nr.
