Re: Xpedition 2, 4 and 5 project
Still hanging in my roof man. No time. First concentrating on the business at hand. I have in the meantime started to work seriously on a wing design and have been doing some analysing and playing with different types etc etc.

At the moment I am downscaling the project to be able to use the Verner 9 Cyl 165 hp Radial engine.

That's OK, as long as it's not dead. Ever thought of hanging two engines off the nose? 2×150hp soob sounds good or 2x150hp uav turboprop?

Re: Xpedition 2, 4 and 5 project
I did but canned the plan. You now need a twin rating etc. Costs goes up, weight goes up and so it never ends. I want a Bushplane

Re: Xpedition 2, 4 and 5 project
It is happening for sure. The project was up for last year but we got so busy with our production tripling and I had to move it to this year. So we have it penned in the calendar to start during June/July after completing one of our current certification projects. I already have the Fuselage, wings and landing gear sorted. Biggest issue is which engine to choose.

Weight: 122 kgHorsepower: 220 hpPrice: Contact us
The UL520T is based on the well proven UL520 but now with a turbo charger / normalizer
The main goal of this turbo is not to create a big boost in HP but rather to compensate for the loss of atmospheric density during all phases of flight, and thus eliminating the loss of power seen with elevated altitudes. The UL520T maintains its 220HP from sea level up to 15000 ft.
An ASTM compliant version (with dual ECU) is available as well.

Re: Xpedition 2, 4 and 5 project
It's an option. I want more ponies though, but maybe for the entry level I am planning it might work.
Re: Xpedition 2, 4 and 5 project
Hi Stefan,
I am not good with these things. I just sold my Zenith CH750 with the ULPower 350i 118 Hp which is a fantastic engine/aeroplane combination. But here in the Highveld the loss of power is what wants me to have Turbo normalization.
My next project is a 4 seat bush plane.
So with the below combinations you suggested, what would be the real power at our elevation?
- Engine range - 160hp for 2 seater and for 4/5 seater 180-260hp
Our engine choice will be the lexus V8 auto conversion with 256hp - 290hp
Regards,
Deon

Re: Xpedition 2, 4 and 5 project
So I accidentally deleted my post. Here goes again:
Looking at the age of this thread, don't rush me. It will be done when its done but I have officially started.......
Preliminary specs:
Empty weight : 650 to 750kg
MTOW : 1250 to 1400kg
Estimated cruise at 75% power : 130KEAS
Fuel capacity 250 to 300 litre (200 to 220kg)
Seats 4 plus 2
HP range 235 to 400hp
Category will be STOL.
Taildragger. Will reluctantly look a t a nosewheel version for the future.
Also considering a scaled down version which will accommodate the Rotax 915 and future 916.
