Cubby as a kit ? Photo added !

Just testing the "market" as the saying goes. How do you all (those Cubby owners and those just reading here) feel about the Cubby being made available as a kit ?

I am sure that there will always be someone that is looking for a project that saves them some money.
That would have to be someone with "extra" time on their hands.

I would love to be able to do something like that in the future, but alas, I just don't seem to see where that time will come from.

For me, the finished, "get-in-and-fly" option works well.

Put it out in the market and see what goes.
The more people know what's available, the more shopping lists you will be on.
That's what you want.

Hi Jean-Pierre, my thinking was along those lines, therefore the question. I have pretty much made up my mind to make it available as a kit.
The difference with our kit would be : The wings will be made in the jig at the factory, also the lift-struts,including the ailerons This will ensure a measure of safety in that the rigging of the important bits will be the same on all the Cubbys, and ensure a certain level of quality. This being said, the Cubby kit will save the builder/owner quite a bit of time and frustration
I just have to fix the price for the kit, then we are open to sales of the kit.

The only Cubby that I know of that was a kit (or plan built) was the one that Dirk (outside Mosselbay) built.

I dont know much about it, but it was not built by Kobus.

It took him some years to build and was slightly different looking in the end.
I do not know what he got from Cubby Wings (plans, part built or what).

Personally I think it is a MUST to offer it as a kit as well as the finished product.
Additionally I agree with your idea of the wings and strut lifts kit.

Finally after some deliberation , and advice from a friend in the industry , and number crunching , we have a Kit price, please call for a quote or send us an email. Details below.
The only imported item on this aircraft is the engine, which will be quoted separate to the kit.

Bear in mind this kit will :
1) have the construction of the wings done,
2) have the ailerons constructed,
3) and the lift-struts drilled to ensure correct dihedral on both wings.
The fabric, nitrate dope + butyrate dope + fabric cement will be included.
4)CNC machined wheels and hydraulic disc brakes , 6 inch rims.
5)All polycarbonate glass cut to exact shape and size, saving you time.

Firewall forward quoted separate, reason being cowls and engine mount differ with different engine installations.

Prices are very reasonable I think.
IMHO get the cubby.co.za website updated with your kit and completed aircraft pricing, photos etc, and get the first Cubby ver.2 flying and demo it at all aviation events.
There is a lot of following behind this yellow aerie. As long as the guys know there is a stable factory and support going forward, I am sure it will sell itself.

Clive , thanks for the kind words. Yes... a very definate yes to getting the first Cubby MK2 flying. I am not yet the owner of the Cubby co, but that is in the comming......this being said, I have paid for a Cubby kit, this will be the MK2 version. It will be used as the demonstrator aircraft.
To all and sundry reading this .........I have been involved in aviation, and aircraft building for 16 years, a lot of money spent on buildings and equipment over those years. I AM NOT GOING AWAY in a hurry !!!!!
I know a good product when I see one.........just like you Cubby drivers do, so........bear with me on this. The Cubby factory has produced parts , and has kept it`s word to those that ordered and paid for their parts.I personally see to this.

Jean,
unfortunately Avcom does not market the "emotional" aspect of selling a Cubby.

We love our planes because we fly them,
everyone that flies in one, loves them,
everyone that sees one flying, is impressed by them.

You will need to be out and about with your product for people to "see and touch" it.
Bums in seats sells planes and cars and bikes and boats and everything else.
Get it into the air and at airfields around the country. Now you have the magical recipe for success.

You have missed this seasons 2013 Airshows, unless you manage to get it over to Oshkosh (Chat with James and the Sling team and see if they will "Glider tow you" with their Sling4 !).

Get ready for the next years airshows and fly-ins and MAKE it HAPPEN.
This past weekend was the Nylstroom Tail-dragger fly-inn. Another great opportunity.

I know it takes money to make money, but, that's what will be needed if you want to make something of this great product---
IN YOUR FACE marketing.

Keep going, the Cubby's are superb planes.
You and they deserve to do well.

(no sarcasm) I do know that it takes money to make money........... ..............however true that is , money to spend on producing an aircraft from my side is not a reality at this stage. And from the present owners of Cubby I have learnt to not expect much

The next is the firewall foreward needed to install the engine. Spinner and backplate, engine mount, top and bottom cowls.
Firewall foreward: R10000 +Vat.
Engine( including Xhaust) Revmaster R2300 @ : R104 000-00 all included landed here.(Vat is included)
P-Prop 2 blade wood R 8000.
Total for above :R 285 000.(Vat. included)


You can also have it as a factory built, ready to fly @ R350 000 + Vat. = R399 000.

Initially the Kit will be much the same as the Factory built version, both front seat solo . The kit will later on get an upgraded wing with increased cord.Increased aileron length and addition of flaps to come as well.
The numbers will first have to be passed by SACAA Engineering department , before the upgrade can be implemented. Then the Kit and Factory built will be the same in all respects.
