Yes, and make sure you read the fine print .........RCM wrote:Hi Jayson,Hawkerdriver wrote:what do you guys mean when referring to T & C's?
You make it sound like a banking advert.
Precisely like in the adds..... The Terms & Conditions that they employ you to fly their aircraft.

Except for a very good financial package, SAA has industry leading rebate allowances for pilots and their families, good sick leave and leave policies and a great approach to fleet and roster bidding, among many other things mostly negotiated by SAAPA.Hawkerdriver wrote:Care to share any?

It can't last forever can it?nugpot wrote:Except for a very good financial package, SAA has industry leading rebate allowances for pilots and their families, good sick leave and leave policies and a great approach to fleet and roster bidding, among many other things mostly negotiated by SAAPA.
There's always the risk that sooner or later some Want-to-impress-the-government CEO will take note of these perks and do his bit for cost-cutting by bringing the "package" into line with what other airlines in SA are offering???

Luckily, to protect their comrades, the labour laws make it extremely difficult to get out of collective agreements. In any case, the state-owned enterprises have a bigger problem: If they want to reduce the perks/salaries of employees, they first have to stop wasting money on other things and stop spending millions on cadet programmes.FAQ wrote:It can't last forever can it?nugpot wrote:Except for a very good financial package, SAA has industry leading rebate allowances for pilots and their families, good sick leave and leave policies and a great approach to fleet and roster bidding, among many other things mostly negotiated by SAAPA.

As a final thought, most of the extras don't really cost money. Most rebates are if space available and bidding and roster handling doesn't cost money, so I think most of these things are pretty safe.

Bottom line is you would be very reckless or have a very lucrative offer pending from a middle eastern carrier - to not accept an offer from SAA......

It might be sooner rather than later.....FAQ wrote: It can't last forever can it?

Below is an extract from pg 21 of the 7 November 2013 issue of Finweek in which Guy Leitch interviews new SAA CEO Monwabisi Kalawe

Re: Would You Still Join SAA ???
It doesn't matter how many times you express this wish in different posts, the reality is that it will be almost impossible to get out of the current collective agreements. In any case, SAA pilots have not done as well as the other SA airlines over the last few years, so the others have caught up to some extent.FAQ wrote:It might be sooner rather than later.....FAQ wrote: It can't last forever can it?

Never mind the fact that it would be counter-productive to reduce the perks and income of SAA pilots while you are trying to lure more black pilots into the same system and without making changes to the perks and pay of other SAA employees (majority black). It won't happen.
BTW, I'm not with SAA.

Re: Would You Still Join SAA ???
If benchmarking is what its all about then I think we'll be fine.
As far as I know, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian, TAAG, and most of the EU airline's pilots are better paid than SAA.
Black pilots, not surprisingly, also aspire to attractive, competitive salaries, so it sure isn't going to do the cause much good to make SAA pilot salaries uncompetitive... Its hard enough to attract people to this career as it is (world wide).
SAA needs to grow to create opportunity. To grow, the airline needs to do business more effectively.
In my mind, its just that simple... Opportunity lives within performance. Anything else is delusional.
