Cubby get-together 2014
Greetings Guys and Gals,
there have been a few questions asked about our next Cubby-get-together for 2014.
This year is just about over so we need to plan now.
4 Cubbys met together early this year in Margate and had a blast. You can see the photos on the post.
A few of the Cubby boys met at this years Nylstroom fly-in and had a superb time.
Here are some suggestions for next year. Out record has been 9 at one event, would be great to beat that number.
* Wavecrest or Trennery's on the Eastern Capes Wild Coast
* Nylstroom Fly-in 18-20 July 2014
* Gariep Dam just outside of Bloemfontein.
* Rolands farm Hartebeesport Dam
* Margate airfield
Here is some gen on each.
Wavecrest/Trennery's is superb with Wild Coast flying and the beauty of being on the coast. Great accommodation with airfields at the Hotels. Good food, great weather and the joys of the Wild Coast. We have done this one before in 2012 and it was a great success. Far for the JNB crowd, but worth every hour to get there and experience one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa.
Nylstroom Taildragger fly-in 18-20 July 2014
A superb location with many other tail-draggers and a wonderful location to show off the Cubby to everyone. Will get us some "Aviation Magazine" exposure as it has done in the past. Winter time, so cold mornings and evenings, but warm and friendly aviators that love to share the passion of flying. Maybe a little far for the Cape boys--but a little HOBBS time never hurt anyone.
Gariep Dam
We stayed there on our way back from our Botswana/Namib flying trip and I was very impressed by the location. The airfield is close to the dam, well looked after and superbly maintained. Its the most central spot for all (Cape, Mossel Bay, JNB, Margate) pilots and makes for good flying times for all. Lots to see and do in the area and very pretty. I loved being there. I suggest the same Hotel that we stayed at. Great views, some of the best food I have ever eaten and wonderful hospitality. 29-31 May will be out as they will be hosting the Presidents Trophy Air-Race.
Rolands farm strip Hartebeespoort Dam
Close for the JNB boys and lots to see and do in the area. With Roland in charge, never a dull moment and lots to learn and share.
Margate Airport
Always a winner, lots of accommodation and many places to fly to from Margate, whether south down the Wild Coast or north past Durban beach front and the Moses Madiba Stadium and landing at Virginia airport for Breakfast or lunch.
They may even allow us a formation fly-past at King Shaka Intl Airport !!!!!!
We can go inland to Fredheim and have flour bombing etc. Can get the Margate Light Plane Club involved and have more planes join us. Also central to the Cape and JNB.
I am up for any of the locations. Its time to beat our previous record and have another superb fly-in.
Please share your options, your feelings, pro's and con's. If you have other venues that you suggest, please do.

Re: Cubby get-together 2014
All sound good!
But I've wanted to do the Wild coast with a couple other planes, what could be better than with a bunch of Cubby's?
When abouts are we looking at?
Amped.

Re: Cubby get-together 2014
Best weather on the Natal / EC Coast is end April / May.
Many of those that I have spoken to all seem to favour the coastal leg.
Maybe JNB oke's want to experience a little "sea-level" power and be by the ocean.
I am game for any suggestions---will go with majority vote. We want as many as possible.
Keep the ideas coming.

Well, time is far running out for this year if we plan on making an event. Booking accommodation and getting everyone's diary's to conform takes time.
Any further suggestions from our Cubby group?

Re: Cubby get-together 2014
for the number of Cubby owners that are on Avcom,
I am surprised that there is only one person that has replied.
Does it mean having to pick-up the phone and call each individually?
Any more input ?!?

Craig and I will be there, either in Cubby and KR2, or Cubby and Jabbie (I may have sneakily procured a big brother for Cubby!)
Privileged to have flown Cubby (ZU-CYB), Jabbie (ZU-JHF), Thunderbird (ZS-WPN, ZS-VWH), Samba XL (ZU-LAR), and C172 (ZS-JIM)

August / Sept?! When are you back Clive?
I took Jabbie for my first long cross country, to a crazy festival called Afrikaburn, was brilliant! (Cubby would have loved the trip but had waay too much luggage and also two pax)

Re: Cubby get-together 2014
Hey Shaun, good to hear from you.
Your trip looked epic, Jabbi sure does look nice, might have to consider one when I get Back.
I will be back on the 31st May until the 15th June. I plan to fly the Cubby down to Mosselbay on the 3rd June....you going to join us?
Make it an early Get together in Mossel Bay?
