787 Schedule pretty much around same time as Ethiopian 787 flights.

QATAR Airways from 01MAY14 plans to increase operations to South Africa, as Doha – Johannesburg sector increases from 7 to 10 weekly. This coincides with the introduction of Boeing 787 operation, which operates daily, including 3 weekly flights that extends to Cape Town.

Planned schedule as follow.

New Doha – Johannesburg flights:

Just a bit of topic, but what are the chances of QR becoming the second gulf carrier to operate flights to FALE? I reckon the 787 might do well on this route.

Should provide some nice views of the 787 over JHB since the JHB - CPT leg often routes overhead JHB northern suburbs in the afternoon

Could this be them testing to see if they can put a 3 weekly direct DOH - CPT DOH on, or is this the start of ending the service in JNB like EY currently.

Not good news for us Capetonians either way, 1 less "direct" flight.

Rumour has it that SAA may be filling the gap left by Etihad on he Jnb-AUH-Jnb route.....it makes sense considering SAA will have "spare" capacity from the end of March when the 3x Buenos Aires flight is canned ......

I have suspected that SAA with fly to AUH for a while, but I still don't get what gap? Etihad fly daily to JNB, although not a balanced schedule.

With the arrival of more a/c, especially the B787s , QR are probably testing the DOH direct CPT initially 3 times per week.
I am sure they looking to increase numbers asap thereafter ... direct CPT. Was on one of there B777-300s in Sept 2013 DOH to CPT via JHB,
and on this flight only about 120 pax disembarked at JHB and the flight was FULL. Most pax remarked, there should be a direct flight.

Spoke to the crew and the said QR were definitely looking into this, once more B787s joined the fleet. They have about 8-9 B787s already,
with another 36 to come.

Cant wait for the flight home ...

Service to CPT is actually decreased now...currently 4 x weekly with 777-200LR/300ER via JNB, now going to 3 x weekly 787 via JNB.
JNB however is overall increased to 10 weekly (4 terminating there, 3 going on to CPT and 3 going on to MPM)

With KQ also operating 787 for a short period we'll get during May most days with all 3 (ET, KQ and QR) flying around the same time (between 1pm and 3pm)...on the days QR is operating a 2nd daily flight (Wed,Fri,Sun), the 2 flights actually will be in JNB close to eachother...one arriving 13:45 from DOH and continue on to CPT at 14:50...the other arriving 14:30 from MPM and departing 15:30 to DOH. Ethiopian arrives 13:15, depart 14:20.

Kenya Airways earlier this week has revised planned Boeing 787 operation for the month of April and May 2014. Planned inaugural date on 21APR14 remains unchanged, however inaugural flight is being switched to Nairobi – Johannesburg.

From 21APR14 to 31MAY14, the Boeing 787 is scheduled to operate daily Nairobi – Johannesburg and Nairobi – Mombasa route, previously scheduled to be served 3 and 4 times a week respectively. Planned 4 weekly Nairobi – Dar es Salaam operation is now cancelled.
