Unread post by Buks Coetzee »

Does this have to be through a flight school ? Is this lisence the same as a skippers lisence ? Where can one apply for such a lisence ? Can one complete this lisence in a private capasity ?

Hi Buks,
Restricted Aircraft operator radio license and Marine VHF radio license are not the same thing.

The Aircraft radio license also covers alot of theory that has nothing to do with the actual talking on the radio like: Airspaces, semi circle rules, transition levels, transition layers, flight rules, radio failure procedures and other important stuff.
Since you will be talking to other pilots, it is the same radio license that LSA, PPL pilots, etc. do, so you can do it at most flight schools (does not have to be a microlight school).
Try buy this book, read through and to help you so long (most theory and practical based on this book), also helps with referencing for flight planning and has important stuff, like looking up frequencies etc:
Pilots Radio Handbook by Dietland Lempp. www.radiobooks.co.za

Hope this helps.
