Comair 231A

Unread post by Raeflyer »

One for Comair crew, this has been bugging me all day.

Yesterday whilst on Jhb Info East I relayed a message through Comair 231A (not sure of the number sequence). What does the Alpha at the end of the callsign signify?

Probably CAW321A. ( Comair 321 Alpha)

The "A" is normally used on the second leg of the flight BA6321 that goes Cape Town to Durban via PE, ie the PE to Durban leg.
The first leg (CT-PE) would typically be filed as simply CAW321.

Why not have a seperate callsign for the second flight?

They do! CAW321 and CAW321A!

Can't change the numbers as it's a through flight from Cape Town to Durban with a stop in PE, rather than two flights.

Does it have to do with rights to the route? Do they pick people up in PE?

if it was BA6321 then its the coastal shuttle with a stop over at PLZ
if it was BA6231 then its a JHB PLZ flight, and probably an extra flight to the normal BA6231, probably due to diversions etc

Yes.

Passengers can book CPT-DUR, CPT-PLZ or PLZ-DUR on this flight.

They also use D for diverted flights (CAW321D) or F for ferry flights (CAW321F) T for training etc
Airports are where it happens
