Why stop there. SONERAI here on the forum has an engineering shop, and manufactures wheels and brakes locallycheckride wrote:3. We want to build light and SMART. KIS. Everything except wheels and brakes will be local,,,sorry and off course the engine and sundries.

Re: Electronic Fuel Injection
Hi Checkride,
I think this is going to be an interesting build, much more happening than your EFI installation. Just a suggestion, how about you start a new thread?
Cheers, Don.

Re: Electronic Fuel Injection
Yea think I will do just that. I'm not sure on the water pump, don't think it is Mechanical, Haven't laid my hands on the engine yet.
A good beginning!
Is that a mechanical waterpump I spy?
I think its Electric, don't know how they would get a mechanical unit to work in that place. Dont see any pulleys connected anywhere, could be wrong.

Re: Electronic Fuel Injection
Electrical but bad place to put it in line. Should be your lowest point for various reasons!

Re: Electronic Fuel Injection
And so its starts again.
need to remove:
1. exhaust Headers - Ceramic coating.
2. Intake headers and Plenum.
3. Alternator.
4. Distributors.
Have a few questions:
1. What is the best coating to use on the barrels?
2. As the distributors will not be used , can the hole in the backing plate be blocked off. Can the distributor shafts be removed and left out or does it hold something else in place. Maybe i should look at the manual.
3. Can the timing marks be taken off the flywheel somewhere, surely there must be a mark .
4.Any suggestions for getting a good mark/reference point to use for advance and retard timing.
5. Can the engine be stood upright on the prop hub supporting its own weight without causing any internal issues.
For Starters........

Re: Electronic Fuel Injection
Don't know1. What is the best coating to use on the barrels?
I know Electroair sells blank plates to block off the distributor hole. The distributor shaft is a flying web that doesn't attach to anything. If you want to retain the shaft then Electroair sells a CNC'd part that goes over the shaft. If you don't want that, then you need to take the distribution cover off, remove the shaft and use a flat blocking plate. Description in the overhaul manual. See: http://www.electroair.net/experimental_ ... _kits.html2. As the distributors will not be used , can the hole in the backing plate be blocked off. Not on the flywheel. The timing of the flywheel is determined by a dowel, but since it is fixed, there are no marks on the flywheel itself. The overhaul manual shows how to set timing by first determining TDC on #1, then rotate to 20 degrees BTDC.3. Can the timing marks be taken off the flywheel somewhere, surely there must be a mark .
Unless you want to design your own, why not use one of the existing ignition setups. SDS, Electroair or Light Speed Engineering (http://www.lightspeedengineering.com/) all have timing wheels, sensors etc. Since SDS already has a timing wheel for their injection, I'd think ignition is a simple addition.4.Any suggestions for getting a good mark/reference point to use for advance and retard timing.
Absolutely. That's the recommended way in the overhaul manual.5. Can the engine be stood upright on the prop hub supporting its own weight without causing any internal issues.

Re: Electronic Fuel Injection
Gents,
Just a small follow up.
1. Attached is one of the heads off CYR- after 110 hrs flying on the EFI and 95 % of the time on MOGAS heads are in really good condition.
2. No excessive carbon build up.
3. Valve seats inlet and exhausts are in very good condition.
4. Inlet and exhaust ports are very clean.
5. One of the valve guides has a small amount of wear on the exhaust side.
6. No signs of heat damage on heads , seats or valve stems.
We in the process of changing all the fuel lines, noticed that the lines inside the panels are all hard, plus find no reference in the logbook that they were ever changed. Nose leg bracket is being changed out for new type. Quite a bit of wear forward and backwards movement on the old glass fibre bracket.

Re: Electronic Fuel Injection
Today fitting both wings, replaced all the fuel lines, replaced both aerolon cables , replaced nose leg bracket. All we need now is an engine please!!!!!!
Also Edgeperformace upgrade parts arrived, no more six fuel lines to the injectors, one common line, huge space saving and just tidies up everything under the hood.
