If you don't gear up your brain before takeoff, you'll probably gear up your airplane on landing.

Do you know what kind of charter it was here for?

Sorry AF, no idea, I just noticed this one's registration number is 9H-TQY and thought it sounded very familiar being from HiFly as well. Its sister plane is 9H-TQZ, the one that regularly goes far south.

Dirk, it was parked at the freight apron for most of the week … the only logical explanation I can think of is the Edinburgh rugby team playing the sharks last Saturday, a/c departed yesterday..

I see one of SAA's B738 TC-SOB on the way north, maybe going home.

Yes the lease was for 6 months, starting mid October. I imagine the other one TC-SEZ will head off in the next few days too.

Edit: I see it's on its way today... currently on approach into Nairobi. Think I read next year there will be 4 of them for the summer season.

It's not the worst idea, and one that many airlines in Europe do. Hire in extra ACMI aircraft to temporarily increase capacity for the season. Global did it for Corendon, and Safair did it for Ryanair at a stage.
