Some incredible work by Qantas ops and Menzies in Joburg! It was 3.5 hour into the flight when it turned around and diverted to Melbourne for a medical emergency. Hobart was a few minutes closer (less than 10), but they chose Melbourne since handling would be easier. Aircraft was refuelled and new crew aboard leaving 2.5 hours after arrival into Melbourne. Pretty good since Melbourne is fairly busy in the early evening.

Arrived 8 hours late in Joburg but need to hustle on the turnaround to ensure arrival back in Sydney before curfew. Menzies managed to turnaround in less than two hours (terrific job) and arrived back at Sydney 13 minutes before curfew!

Thats very impressive. I used to supervise turnarounds and the staff doing these quick turnarounds get too little acknowledgement. Without the staff in ground handling and the OPS folks there be no commerical air traffic.

In the battle between aeroplanes and the ground. The ground has yet to lose.

Aviation would be great, if it wouldn't be for passengers.

FlySafair just sent out an alert that there's a power outage at CPT.

Counting about 12 flights heading to PLZ...now nothing can land at GRJ...

KLM seems to be diverting to JNB and a few en-route from JNB/HLA is turning back

Yes....
I'm sitting on United Airlines flight at the threshold of Rwy 19 with the engines shut down to save fuel. The airport has a power failure and there no runway lights......
Been sitting here for over an hour and now looks like I may miss my connection out of Washington DC..
Welcome to effrica I guess...

Good Luck… all other aircraft inbound for CT diverted to PE. The ones from Jnb turned around over Freestate and KLM on the way to Jnb. Seems like a massive issue
