Poor GE125 was about to start descent into Cape Town and is now heading back to Johannesburg...some passengers probably won't be happy about the 3 hour flight to nowhere!

I wonder if it might be the E145 Z-WPU with a recoded transponder as it was still using the hex from Aerolitoral XA-RLI on its last few flights. :?

REG is definitely Z-WPU, got a pic on arrival. I suspect it's ex N214MA, XA-RLI.

This seems like quite a short test flight...

If you don't gear up your brain before takeoff, you'll probably gear up your airplane on landing.

Does anyone know whether this aircraft is leaving the country as well or is it perhaps being prepared to join one of the other local airlines?

It's a 400 so probably on its way out.

One of the ex-Comair 400's now flies in the "lovely" region of East Africa (Somalia, Sudan etc) with Dallo out of Nairobi for example.
what goes around, comes around.

It was tracked via MLAT, not ADSB.
MLAT required multiple ground stations to track it to estimate its position
It went out of range of enough stations
