Depron Cargo Plane Build (ft-guinea)

Unread post by charleyza »

* EDIT * Build starts later in the thread :P

Has anybody built one of these cargo planes?

http://www.flitetest.com/articles/ft-guinea-build

The foamboard I have found at local arts/crafts shops seems too heavy. Thinking of using a mixture of depron and plywood.

The original design was made from depron:

Any advice or input would be appreciated.

I also build one from 6mm FOM+ sheets.
Mine came out at 2.2kg with a 4cell setup, yet handles the weight with no problem.
Needed to add nose weight as even with a 4cell 5000mah I couldn't get the CG as per the plan.

But an awesome flyer & a very pretty presence in the air

I printed the plans.. then one thing led to another and... well it ended up slightly different! 6mm depron, 1.5m hotwied wing. Wrong motor choice.. nacelles too closely spaced & too heavy. Didn't fly nice

Interesting that it flew with that much weight. Oh wow 4 cell... I was thinking of using a 3 cell 2200 for weight reduction.

How much flight time did you get with the 4 cell? I assume you did graceful scale flying with it?

The problem with the weight is the foam the Flitetest guys use are way lighter than we have
Depron is not as strong.
I fly 18min on the 4cell. Yes only scale flight. I don't trust the wings integrity with all that weight
so nothing rough

But still a very nice flyer

Will posts pics as soon as im back home again

Lol I have the same problem :)

I made a hot wire cutting rig for my depron stick, got the cuts for the interlocking bits really nice. Used a blade for the long simpler cuts.

Yes, the dollar tree foam is light. Pity we can't get it here for that strength.

Thats a decent flight time for scale considering it has 2 motors to power. What kind of motors do you use?

I will very much appreciate some pictures your your cargo plane.

Judging by the tiles on floor you are going original stock size on this build? Undercambered wing and all?

Have you decided on motors yet? The original flew on reeeeaaly small motors. 24/30g or something..

Looking forward to your build...

Yes I went with the big plans Larry Ross did based on Peters design.

Looks like a 40 size?

I had to Google what Undercambered is
The plans look like a flat bottom, perhaps I'm not reading them right?

I have a park 480 that I was thinking of using (X2 of course) but they are rated for up to 850 grams so may be way too powerfull ^_^
