Conversation on to a RV 14
I am busy building a RV14a. I am finished with the empennage, wings and the fuselage will be finished by the end of August if everything is going to plan. The engine, propeller and finishing kit are on their way. This RV 14 will be one of the first in South Africa. My problem is how and with what aero plane will I be able to do a conversation. If I do a conversation on a RV 7, will I be able to fly the 14 as well ? My other question is how far am I from finish , this is my first built?

You are approaching the 90% done and 90% to go position that all homebuilders have to face. You feel that as the major structures are complete, you are almost done... but unfortunately you are not nearly done.
The final-completion stage is frustrating, soul destroying and yet character building, even enjoyable. You will soon learn to understand yourself.. Hang in there it will all be worth it in the end.
With a new type, the CAA will give an approved instructor the type rating and allow him to convert you onto your own aircraft; unfortunately you need to flog the motor for a minimum 5 hours (better to do 10 hours) before you start circuit training.
So, send out feelers in the RV-group and you will find there are quite a few who could fit the bill.
RV's are the greatest.

Thank you Chalkie, for the encouraging words,at this stage I still enjoy the building process thoroughly. Hopefully it will stay that way until I have the opportunity to fly her. I will send out feelers when I am closer to the end.

Seen that Robin Coss is building one for a client on their webpage, they might beat you to it:

You could have a conversation with them regarding a conversion...

Re: Conversation on to a RV 14
Firstly I just want to correct the spelling of " conversation on to a RV 14" to conversion on to a RV14. I know Robin is building a RV14 and hopefully they are finished before me. That will help a lot with the paperwork at the SACAA concerning the registration since mine won't be the first.
RB , thank you for letting me know about a potential instructor that I will be able to do a conversion. I fly a C182 at the moment from a farm strip near Hluhluwe.

Re: Conversation on to a RV 14
Do you need a designated test pilot to do the first flight of a experiential aircraft or can the builder fly it himself. I am coming close to the first flight and will like to fly it myself.
Re: Conversation on to a RV 14
What is the requirements to become a test pilot concerning the first flight on a ZU aircraft?
