First New Cubby Frame . Now ZU-DRO

Unread post by Jean Crous »

:) I collected the first of our new model frames from our CAA certified welder near Cape town.At my workshop we have a Super Cub of a friend of mine, which I used to compare our Cubby against. Much to my surprise the following was determined :Cabin length from the firewall to the rear seat backrest is 2mm shorter than the Super Cub. The cabin width over the shoulder of the pilot (front seat) is the same as the S-Cub. The bottom of the door opening we have enlarged , it is 95mm bigger than the S-Cub. The door height is 15mm smaller than the S-Cub.
The firewall has been widened to facilitate an enclosed engine installation, so a sleeker look is obtained and aerodynamically cleaner for less drag. Looks more like a S-Cub 8) .
Main gearlegs on the taildragger have been lengthened by 100mm, same length as the Bushbaby tailie legs.

All round I think this will be what the Cubby should have been from the start 8)
I will add some fotos later after the frame has been painted.
And .....YES it is available as a KIT

Jean.

Lekker Jean. I think this will be one sexy little plane. Can't wait to see the end product.

Good luck with the final development and assembly.

  Soon ,we are quite busy. There is also a "program " to upgrade the older Cubby to the new look, we are busy with one, and soon to start on a second one. I will post some fotos in a week or two.

Engine options will be Revmaster R2300, Rotax 912, Camit 85Hp and 125 Hp , Rotax 582, D-Motor , and UL Power.
It will have flaps yes, in future there will be an electrical jackscrew for the trim on the horizontal stabilizer . Present models will have an electrical trim on the left elevator, instead of the cable operated one of the old models.

:D Ok, here we go . Some pics will follow showing the wider firewall, and a bigger door , a 5 point engine mount, cowls similar to the Rans S7, and a "Super Cub" 80% scale nose "bowl", also an opening window on the left of the cockpit. Enjoy
Notice the firewall is the same width as the cockpit over the instrument panel. Longer main gear legs give a better stance.
