She’s finished and the engine runs are done. Expecting the test-flight this week and shipping next. Should be with the agent, Flying Frontiers, in Hilton early next year.

The main & tail-wheel rims still need to be painted black; otherwise she’s good to go.

Craig, what happened to the "140HP Rotax 912uls with Supercharger." Aircraft you referred to last year, that should have arrived in SA early this year.
Did she arrive? Any pics for us?

Shock Cub ZU-OCK is in the air as we speak, planned arrival this afternoon in Stellies. Owner Duncan Gillespie left Hilton, PMB yesterday morning, and spent the night at Gariep on the way.
The photo below was taken over the Springrove Dam near Nottingham Road yesterday, en route.
Test flights were successful, and the aircraft has proven to be everything it was claimed to be. Hopefully Duncan will have the aircraft out and about for the Stellies airshow this weekend. It is fitted with a Rotax 914 115HP motor.

From here it looks like you have a bit too much pressure in those tyres.

Jim please correct me if i am wrong.
Here in Namibia we fly all the taildraggers / Cheeta / Bushbaby/ Cubs etc
at 0.8 bar but max 1 bar.
It land well on gravel and sand.

Johan I can't give you a figure for that aircraft on those tyres, but I think that for soft surfaces you need a bit of a bulge at the bottom.

I got a pair of "tundra" tyres for a Piper Cruiser I owned. The correct pressure for them wasn't 0.275 bar (4.0 psi). But I seem to think my tyres were quite a bit bigger than these ones.

Jim the aircraft like the Bushbaby and those all have an max all up weight around
500 too 600 kg.That is full fuel tent and some beer.
Most use 800 or 850 x 6 inches tires and then the .8 bar give you that little bulge
on the ground.
For tar i don,t know--we do not fly to tar runways to many speed-cops there.
To fly out , land in a river, two man tent , a fire , some fat sheep chops and a cold one.
That is flying.Luckily we still have this privileges

Current main-wheel tire pressures on the Shock are 11 psi. We’re going to experiment, look at reducing it down to around 8 psi. Whilst they may look over-inflated in the photograph they currently have a lot of ‘give’ and together with the shocks provide a really smooth ride on any surface tried to date.

While I perfectly understand the mission/intention of such an aircraft -- "go anywhere, land anywhere" craft -- can anyone persuade me that such enormous tyres are necessary? They must cause <oodles> of drag, where I would have thought that something <slightly> smaller would suffice? Of course, the incentive comes from operators in Alaska and folk presumably wish to copy those examples; but where in Southern Africa is this overkill/macho-look really needed? (Game wardens in East Africa operated Super Cubs for years on standard wheel/tyre combinations!)

Go ahead: persuade me...
